We’d like to thank the many thousands of people that voted for Bolton Conservatives, (23,000) we truly value your support, especially in mid term elections.
It was a difficult night for Bolton Conservatives as we lost some experienced and very hard working councillors and yet our vote share did not decline, so what happened?
Whilst the number of seats lost was high the margins were very tight as we lost seat after seat to tiny Labour majorities, this was no landslide.
We lost
- Hulton by 17 votes
- Astley Bridge by 19 votes
- Breightmet by 28 votes
- Halliwell by 77 votes
- 2nd Hulton seat 100 votes
- Little Lever by 163 votes
If 152 votes that went to Labour had gone to the Conservatives.
Labour would be on 20 seats Conservatives 23 seats
So there is hope.
Five seats lost to Labour by tiny margins which we will do our best to overturn next year, as we know what a disaster The Labour Party has been for Bolton and the chaos they will inevitably bring to the administration of the town.
Leader of Bolton Conservatives, Cllr Martyn Cox, said:
Today was my last day as leader of the council. The town has voted to return a Labour Council with the the support of One Kearsley an ‘independent’ group affiliated to Labour.
It has been a huge honour to lead the town. Through some incredibly turbulent times, I’ve only been able to do this with a wonderful group of councillors, the town is unlikely to get a better bunch, who were totally dedicated to improving Bolton, after 40 years of Labour control.
We needed more time to turn the town round but we have to accept the decision of the electorate. We will however as a smaller group continue to offer the only viable alternative to the Bolton Labour Party
